That Dutchman's Farm is owned and operated by Maja and Willem van den Hoek, who in 1970 coming from the Netherlands (town of Soest) landed in Canada as newlywed immigrants. Starting their life together in British Columbia, working farms and forest they subsequently moved to Nova Scotia (sort of as "back to the landers"), ending up in Upper Economy, with their family and a thriving cheese-making business.

Indoors or on the deck, the cafe provides a spectacular view of the
COBEQUID SHORES BAY OF FUNDY.

Try our homemade soup, smoked farmers sausage, fresh biscuits,
and Dutch "appel taart" for dessert.

Open daily 11:00am to 5:00pm. Father's Day to Labour Day

We accommodate bus tours and large gatherings.

The cheese Willem produces is a "Farmstead Gouda." It is a true heritage cheese that has its roots in the Netherlands, reaching down into the early middle ages. That Dutchman's Farm is a cottage industry the whole family works in and feels proud of.

The gift shop includes a good selection of crafts
by Nova Scotia and Canadian artisans. The main floor has a Christmas corner,
souvenirs and gifts (particularly from the Netherlands) and a large selection of Dutch candy.
